The worker jacket didn’t start here. It started in France — the bleu de travail, cut square, three pockets, dyed that inky blue. Monet and Matisse wore it to paint in; it was the jacket of someone who worked with their hands. It crossed the Channel on the backs of painters, and then everyone else who needed a jacket that didn’t care about paint, dust or weather. A century on, it’s as English as anything we make.

Then the 90s got hold of it. Chain gangs in Cool Hand Luke, inmates in Shawshank, and N.W.A walking out in box-fresh blue chore coats. If you were a kid in the 90s with hip-hop on a cassette, this jacket was already in your head before you knew what it was called.

Ours is unlined and bound inside, 27" long, three patch pockets with a pen slot on the chest, a throat tab, and nothing on the outside but a small woven tab. Cut square the way it always was, sized for how we’re built now. The founder’s a painter — it’s the one jacket he was always going to make.
