Named for the moor — the big empty one between the Highlands and the rest of us.

Rannoch Moor is fifty square miles of bog, rock and weather with one road across it. Nothing to hide behind. A coat for that place has to be long, it has to be warm, and it can't be precious about it.

So the Rannoch is the long one. Cut to the knee in cotton ripstop — the old cloth with the grid in the weave that stops a tear going anywhere — washed before it leaves the factory so it's soft on day one and gets better from there.

Inside it's sherpa, all the way through. Body, hood, sleeves. Hung loose rather than glued to the shell, so it breathes, with brass eyelets under the arms to let the heat out when you've walked too fast. Two-way zip under a snap storm flap, a hood that stays up when the wind's off the sea, and a cord at the waist you can pull in one-handed.

One mark on it — the script, embroidered beside the sleeve pocket.
