No cliffs, no lighthouse, no name anyone outside a trawler crew would recognise. Just open water, and beneath it a bank that's been there since the ice left — shallow enough to turn a swell vicious, far enough out that if the weather comes in you're on your own until it passes. Men have fished it for three hundred years.

The beanie they wore wasn't fashion. It was the cap you pulled on at four in the morning and forgot about.

Ours is 100% merino wool, knitted in England. A short, fitted watch cap in a chunky rib — dense enough to cut the wind, soft enough to wear all day without an itch — with a folded cuff and one woven GREYBANK tab on it. Nothing else.

Wear it for the school run. Wear it on a 4am start. Wear it long after the reason you bought it has stopped mattering.
