THE MAKING OF THE GREYBANK FLEECE – PART 1

DESIGN
Every Greybank product starts the same way.
Not with a factory order or a finished sample, but with a sketch, followed by AI renders that help bring the idea to life. As an engineer, I often think how different product development would have been if we'd had tools like this twenty years ago. What once took weeks can now be explored in hours, allowing us to refine ideas long before the first prototype is ever made.
The idea behind our fleece was simple.
Create something that works as a warm mid-layer beneath a waterproof shell, but is equally capable of being worn on its own. It needed to feel at home on the British coast, whether you're leaving the harbour before sunrise, walking cliff paths in winter or simply wearing it every day.
From the beginning we wanted to avoid unnecessary features.
Instead, we focused on the essentials.
A high-loft fleece for warmth.
Technical ripstop reinforcements where abrasion is most common.
Waterproof zips for dependable performance.
Minimal branding and a clean silhouette that won't date after a single season.
This first concept captures those original ideas.
Not everything would make it into the final product, and many details would change during development, but the philosophy was already clear.
Build it properly.
Keep it simple.
Create something you'll still want to wear years from now.
This is where the journey began.
