THE MAKING OF THE FORTIES - PART 1: THE FOUNDER JACKET

PART 1 — THE FOUNDER JACKET

Every brand has a first idea.

Ours was a word and a jacket.

The word was AfterWorkWear.

Clothing for the part of life that starts when the shift ends. For the men who work hard all week and live for the coast, the water and the weekend.

The jacket was The Forties.

Before there was a name, a logo or a single product for sale, there was a deck jacket with its roots in the sea. The jacket I wanted to wear and couldn't find. Simple, hard-wearing and made for real life on the British coast, from the harbour to the drive home after a long shift.

Greybank was built around the two of them.

Along the way, other jackets came. The Rannoch took the spotlight for a while as our technical parka, and it's still part of the story.

But when it came to choosing the jacket to lead our first drop, there was only ever one real answer.

The one it all started with.

Vintage on the outside. Warm and modern on the inside.

The shell is olive waxed cotton canvas. We chose 7oz for a reason. It's softer from day one, moves with you and doesn't need months of breaking in.

Inside, there's no borg, no sherpa, no borrowed Americana. Just polar fleece. Warm, comfortable and practical.

The sample is on its way.

When it arrives, it gets measured, checked and worn properly. Then it's going to Scarborough to be photographed where it belongs, on the Yorkshire coast.

Over the coming weeks, I'll share every decision that shaped it.

AfterWorkWear. The founder jacket.

This is where Greybank started.
