Printed, not moulded

Printed, not moulded

Greybank sunglasses · coming soon

Most sunglasses are moulded. A factory cuts a steel tool, and that tool turns out the same frame ten thousand times, in whatever colours the buyer thinks will shift. It's a good way to make a lot of something. It's not a good way to make a few.

Ours are printed. The frame is drawn once, then built up layer by layer when it's ordered — no tool, no minimum, no warehouse full of frames nobody wanted. The filament it's printed from is recycled, not virgin plastic. Each one is finished by hand after it comes off the machine. It means we can make a shape we actually like, in one colour, out of something that's already had a life, and not have to sell a thousand to justify it.

The shape is a thick, square, vintage frame — the kind you'd find in a drawer of a man who bought good things and kept them. Matte black, grey lens, GREYBANK on the temple and nothing else.

Where we are

We're developing it now — the fit, the hinge, the finish — with makers here in Britain. When it's ready we'll say so here first, and we'll tell you exactly what the filament is and where it came from. Nothing on the label we can't stand behind.
